Fashion and beauty writer Lauren Codling is constantly on the hunt for gadgets that make styling her hair a breeze. As a city-dwelling lass who adores looking glamorous, but isn't a fan of early mornings, anything that makes this task easier is a bonus. With lengthy, naturally straight locks, she was on the hunt for a dryer that can deliver sleek results without taking up too much time.
So, when she spotted the HappyGoo Hair Dryer consistently topping Amazon's bestseller lists and boasting nearly 2,500 five-star reviews, she was intrigued to see if it could live up to its reputation. She told the Liverpool Echo: "This clever device is designed to style and dry hair swiftly, featuring innovative ionic technology that aids in reducing frizz and static, helping to achieve a polished salon-quality finish every time.
"It also bears an uncanny resemblance to the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, renowned for its sleek, futuristic appearance. Naturally, I was thrilled when it arrived at my doorstep - and my short-haired mum couldn't resist giving it a whirl as well, to test how versatile this beauty gadget truly is. Could it work for us and integrate seamlessly into our hectic schedules?"

My honest review of the Happy Goo Hair Dryer
"Looks-wise, it could easily be mistaken for the Super Sonic - it's sleek, compact, and has a similar circular head. It's also incredibly lightweight — lighter than any other dryer I can recall using before — meaning that I didn't suffer from wrist ache when moving it around my head.
"It has three heat settings — cold, warm and hot — and two fan speeds, which came in handy depending on what I was trying to do with my hair. There's even a cold blast feature, which proved ideal for setting my style in place.
"When testing, I didn't think the highest heat was that hot, so I worried it might take ages to cover my entire head. But it was plenty warm enough to dry my long hair in under five minutes (thanks to its powerful 2000W motor, too). It dried my mum's short hair quickly, too, working fast without causing frizz.
"I was definitely intrigued by its built-on ionisation, which is supposed to leave strands smooth, soft and shiny. And honestly, I can't knock it — after using it, my mane looked like I'd walked out of a salon or tackled it using my trusty ghds.
"The dryer comes with three attachments: two concentrator nozzles for precision and a diffuser for creating volume and defining natural curls. Neither my mum nor I have curly locks, so we didn't have much use for the diffuser, but the concentrator nozzles worked a treat. They allowed me to target specific areas and comb out my hair as I dried, meaning it had a smooth, poker-straight finish.
"Likewise, once it was dry, my mum's hair came out straight and healthy-looking without much need to style it. This saved us time in the long run and eliminated the need for hair straighteners or tongs, giving our locks a rest from high heat. Even better, our styles lasted until the end of the day.
"However, despite how well the attachments worked, my mum and I agreed they were slightly troublesome to use. They lock onto the hair dryer's head securely but are angled so you have to twist your wrist to use them, which felt unnatural and took a while to get used to when styling."
You can currently get the HappyGoo Hair Dryer for £29.74 on Amazon Prime Day, but be quick if you're tempted, as there is no indication when this sale will end. If you want to go all out, you could go for the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer, which retails for £329.99.
Otherwise, if you're after something more affordable, Argos has reduced the price of this Remington D5220 Pro Air Turbo Hair Dryer to £25.99 from £33. Remington's Sapphire Luxe Hair Dryer is also discounted from £45 to £29.99.
